legalize me.

It's my 18th today.
Another chance to show the world who I am-and what love is.
I wish on this birthday for peace-for the ability to see the beauty-for acceptance-for tolerance-and for LOVE for all the world.
When I blow out my candles-the world will be a little bit brighter!

i'll post my outfit later...if I have time after all my festivities.

The other skull scarf

My Outfit: Thrifted Black sweater, Hudson Jeans, Black Martino boots, white skull scarf from Israel, Black North Face jacket

When I'm really lazy I usually just throw this scarf on a pretty plain outfit and call it a day. Today was just one of those days. I danced from 11-3 and when I went out for a bite to eat I had no energy left to get dressed up.
I bought my purple skull scarf at Nordstroms and this scarf was a present from my friends when they were in Israel...they didn't know I already owned one. I was actually really happy to get the white one because it goes with everything and you can never have too many scarves.

it's raining snow

My Outfit: Grey Cardigan from H&M, thrifted black dress, red leggings from Nordstroms, Black Martino Boots, Black gloves from H&M

Yeah that is a hell of a lot of snow!
Gosh, I hate winter.
I have realized recently that I usually just wear grey and black and then add one pop of color. I never noticed it before. I feel like my outfit is going a little Gossip Girl-or maybe it's just the red leggings and the cardigan. At school yesterday there were scores of girls wearing bright colored tights, I couldn't believe it, I felt like I was on the set of GG, although there definitely was a lack of headbands and bitchiness.

I just want to give a mention to MG who never fails to flatter me with compliments on all my outfits!
so THANKS LOVE
the kind words are always appreciated.

Red Silk

My outfit: Black shirt, Grey Tank and Black skinnys all from H&M. Pink and red silk scarf from India, Brown Minnetonka boots, Silver cuff from Morocco.

I could not be more ecstatic that the weekend is here! However, I have miles and miles of things to do on my ever growing To-Do list. I doubt I will have a chance to catch up on all my favorite TV shows...but I just might have to postpone some of my papers to watch Top Chef and Burn Notice (I love you Michael Westen).

Puff hair and leather

My outfit: Black faux leather jacket from Wet Seal, Grey round bottom edge T from Urban Outfitters, Grey skinnys from Target, Black booties from Tellos, Hot pink scarf -a bday gift a few years back and CRAZY PUFF HAIR.

I have been lusting over leather jackets for quite some time now. Of course, my limited budget prevented me from even going near them-$400 price tags are not my friends.
I settled for a fake leather jacket, which fine by me, except it is pretty unforgiving when moving my arms or any other part of my body. As my friend today who knows very little about fashion said, "I love the juxtaposition of the flowy pink scarf and the hard black leather in your outfit". She was very proud of her self for this comment...I was even prouder of her for even noticing what I was wearing!
Pink is not my color (Although I admit that I once owned a bubble gum pink Juicy Couture velour sweatsuit), I prefer black and grey as you probably can tell. But the scarf was warm and I thought it added somethimg special to the outfit as a whole.
I've got my eye on some lucious REAL leather jackets but for now the polyester will have to do.

braided gold

My outfit: Black long sleeve shirt from H&M, Purple handmade vest, Light wash BDG skinnys, Braided black belt from H&M, braided gold chain necklace from Forever 21, Minnetonka moccasins.

Yay, I found time to post today's outfit. I don't really have a better picture of my outfit. I posted a different one on Chictopia but you can't really see the necklace and vest for what they are in that picture.
There are so many stylish people, I can't handle it. HAHA.
Every time I look on Chictopia or Lookbook I get so inspired! I guess that is what they are there for. I still don't get how some people have around 9000 chic points... if only I could get to that number some day...
add me as a fan? :)

Obama oh nine

My Outfit: Black shirt/short dress from Kohls, Black sweater from a street vendor in NYC(ostensibly my favorite sweater), purple leggings from Nordstroms, White socks from God knows where, Black booties from Tellos, Handmade necklace(close up in an earlier post). Purple workout ball as a HUGE accesory...

This outfit is from a few days back...hopefully I will have time to upload today's outfit. School has been keeping me real busy, I have not had time to do just about anything!

WOO Obama!

for $25

My Outfit: Thrifted black wool sweater, Handmade red pencil skirt, black tights from my grandma, grey socks from some family member, Mia black heels.

I guess the total cost of this outfit including the shoes has to be around $25! I enjoy adding up the cost of each of my outfits trying to see the lowest number I can get. I don't know why I do it but it's something fun to do. I think I managed a pretty cheap outfit, hopefully it doesn't look cheap...

Moroccan Jewls

My outfit: Grey Cardigan from H&M, AG jeans, Black blouse from my mom, Black Martino boots, Necklace and belt from Morocco, my daily rings-one silver and one ivory.

You might think that I have traveled the world and have brought back such treasured jewelry and accessories from a trip to Morocco, but in fact I have never been there. The belt came from my cousin who traveled there and the necklace was an incredible find that I discovered in my good family friend's jewelry box from when she was in Morocco. She let me keep it! It is hard to see them close up but the necklace has beautiful blue beads dangling off of its upside down silver horseshoe and the belt is braided black leather with am engraved silver closure.
I just adore unique finds like these and I hope to collect more.

And I know that I have been wearing my Martino winter boots in many pictures but it is the winter and my feet get cold easily...
If it was up to me I would wear them much less but my heels and other shoes just don't keep me as warm.

Monster-bring us peace

Tonight I managed to lose most of my voice from an intense 3 hour karaoke session! Today is my closest friend/almost sister's birthday and we celebrated by rocking out and singing what seemed like thousands of duets. The party was a blast and i'm so glad that we could spend the night with our favorite people.
The picture above has absolutely nothing to do with karaoke, or fashion but it is a picture that I took while in Israel and I find it quite inspiring. I don't know what exactly about it is so inspiring but I just am addicted to the raw graffiti style. The world is going through some hard times right now and I feel like this graffiti monster symbolizes so much. This blog is about fashion but mostly inspiration and I just felt the need to post this.
Let's pray for peace.

Mall Day

My outfit: Black hoodie from Forever 21, Black long sleeve shirt from H&M, Grey Marika leggings, Black Martino boots, Purple skull print scarf, Yellow Chanel inspired bag, Black gloves from H&M

Ahh, I had a shopping expedition today! I decided that since I had not been to the mall in awhile that I needed to go and check out what was there. My shopping philosophy is that you need to be comfortable and wear clothes are easy to change in and out of. That usually means looking like a shlump and but I really do try to avoid that. Leggings are my #1 necessity when it comes to being comfy and chic. All I needed was to add a zip up hoodie, pull on boots, a flowy scarf and I was ready to take the mall by storm.

The peacock top

My outfit: Black sweater from a street vendor in NYC, Black top with peacock feather print from Forever 21, Black long sleeve shirt and black skinnys from H&M, Black booties from Tellos, Black thin vintage belt and Gold vintage bracelet.

On Fridays my school requires us to dress up/look presentable. I use it as an excuse to wear heels and get away with it! Most girls come to school in mini skirts and cleavage revealing tops (Which SO is against our dress code), but it is refreshing to see everyone looking their best. I quite look forward to Fridays because everyone always puts on their cutest outfit and not to mention it's one day before the weekend!

Note: When I bought the peacock print top that I am wearing I was with one of my very good friends. I happen to think that this friend has really cute style but when I told her that I was planning on buying the shirt she almost gagged. She simply could not believe that I would bring home something so 'ugly'. Well I told her that all that matters is that I like it, so I bought it. And I still stand by my purchase!

Just another Thursday

My outfit: Brown cardigan from Marshalls, Navy vest from Urban Outfitters, White V-neck long sleeve top from Urban Outfitters, Grey skinnys from Target, Black Martino boots, Silver cuff from Morocco

For some reason my left eye looks extremely odd in this photo. I blame the Enhancing effects that I used on the photograph. Well, this is what I wore today, nothing too exciting but I did receive many compliments on the look. The vest that I wore is actually really cool, it didn't show up well in the photo but it's made out of a really thin knit material so it's partially see-through and it has a little pocket on the bottom of the left side, it also buttons up the front. Sorry I didn't take a close up photo. The boots I am wearing are a new purchase. I needed a pair of really warm Winter boots that had good tread on the bottom of them (No, I don't go out in the snow in 4 inch heels).

The slippery ice storm going on outside has kept me in all day.To keep myself occupied I spent most of my day doing online browsing(shocker!). As I was perusing the Barneys New York website I found some gorgeous shoes that I think would fit perfectly in my wardrobe. There's just one tiny problem-their price tags. I've accepted the fact that I can't own them but at least I can look at them!

Keeping warm

My outfit: Black V-neck sweater-thrift store find. BDG light wash skinnys from Urban Outfitters, hand knitted Maroon scarf, Black Timberland boots.

I'm just trying to keep warm this winter. School likes to keep us guessing about the weather, some days it's broiling in school and some days I never take my jacket off. I was hoping for the latter when I wore this but unfortunately my school was pretending to be a sauna...Maybe tomorrow my judgment will be better.

Prom night revisited and remixed

Tonight I had the lovely opportunity of going to my good friend's cocktail party in honor of her birthday. She told all of the invitees to wear their prom dresses from last year...so I did! Of course, I couldn't just slip in the dress, put on the same old shoes and walk out the door. I had to put a new spin on the dress and since it is a pretty funky dress that I still love and is not really the TYPICAL prom dress it was pretty easy to make it fit my style now. I added black leggings, put on new chunky heels, and let my hair down with a faux leather hair band. The result:just right for a Sunday night cocktail party in January.
My outfit: Black lace and fringe mini dress from BCBG Maxazria, Black leggings from Forever 21, Black socks from my dad, Black chunky heels By Mia, black faux leather hair band made by myself.

Trinkets and Pearls

My pile of treasures.

Using old trinkets from my Nana and various bobbles and craft materials that I have collected over the years I constructed some jewelry. One of my favorite things to do is to deconstruct old or seemingly worthless items and then reconstruct one of a kind pieces. I do this with clothes and jewelry and really anything I can get my hands on. Since the snow is so beautiful on it's own right I thought it was only fair to adorn it with my handmade crafts.

---

My "lets photograph jewelry in the snow" outfit: I didn't dress up for the occasion, I simply put on anything that would make me feel as warm and snuggly as possible in the freezing cold. A black NorthFace jacket and 2B Free sweatpants were my warming graces.

Thrifting

Finally, after much anticipation I will be going thrifting today.
I had dreams last night of scoring major goodies, such as a fuchsia Balenciaga handbag, but alas I guess that is what dreams are for. So, I may not find the bag of my dreams today but hopefully I will come back with a couple new items to add to my wardrobe. If not
a Balenciaga then maybe a Chanel 2.55 ?!
---

My thrifting outfit: black cardigan from a street vendor in NYC, brown v-neck T from Forever21, black leggings from Urban Outfitters, brown Minnetoka moccasins, black leather bag from Italy and black gloves from H&M.

I guess my dreams were too big last night si
nce I was unable to find that fuchsia bag but I did manage to find some cute items.I will wear them soon!

2009 and the blogging begins

Amber Valleta for Harper's Bazaar.
Photography: Peter Lindbergh.
My new years resolution: Start a fashion blog.

Lets start with the designers that I absolutely admire...
Christophe Decarnin for Balmain
Alessandro Dell'Acqua
Barbara Bui
Derercuny
Meadham Kirchhoff
&
Alexander Wang (Congrats on the CFDA award!)
---

There is nothing better than pure inspiration. I hope to be able to inspire others through this fashion blog. I may not have designer clothes, but I have a designer's mind. With my minimal clothing budget that somehow gets tightened every year I do my best to create outfits that suit my seemingly ever changing style.

My friends, classmates and the like all adore my style...Hopefully you will too.
